Let’s talk about something every applicant feels. Cost.
Here are a few recent updates from IRCC that directly impact your pocket:
1. Citizenship fees went up slightly.
As of March 31, 2026, the Right of Citizenship fee increased from $119.75 to $123, while the $530 processing fee stays the same. This is part of the annual inflation adjustment. Small change, but very consistent.
2. Passport processing just got interesting.
Following an increase with passport and travel documents fees, starting April 1, 2026, there is now a “30 business days or free” guarantee. If processing goes beyond 30 business days, the fee is automatically refunded.
A government refund, issued automatically. That’s new.
3. Permanent Residence fees are increasing across most programs.
Effective April 30, 2026, the Right of PR moves to $600. PNP increases to $990. Business class reaches $1,895. Family class goes to $570. Protected persons and H&C increase to $660. Permit holders move to $390.
These updates follow the regular two-year adjustment cycle tied to program costs and demand.
What this really means
Fees are structured and predictable. The real difference comes down to timing and strategy, especially when handling multiple applications.
