Ontario has officially closed all previous OINP streams and introduced a new system centered on one pathway (June 2026):
π Ontario Workforce Priority Stream – EOI reopening expected this summer
This is a structural shift to employer-driven selection.
New Pathways Breakdown:
π TEER 0β3 (Skilled roles)
β’ Job offer required (full-time, permanent)
β’ Work experience (meet ONE):
β 6 months with employer (last 12 months)
β 3 months (recent Ontario graduates)
β 2 years cumulative (last 5 years)
β’ Language: CLB 5β6
β’ Education: Post-secondary
π TEER 4β5
β’ Job offer required
β’ 9 months experience (last 2 years)
β’ Language: CLB 4
β’ Education: Secondary school
π Self-employed Physicians
β’ No job offer required
β’ Must be licensed in Ontario
β’ Eligible for OHIP billing
π Rural / Northern Employers
β’ Lower revenue thresholds
β’ Improved access outside major cities
So⦠is it actually harder now?
π Yes, but not for everyone
Itβs harder if you:
β’ No employer support
β’ Rely on education alone (no job)
β’ Cannot meet higher language/education benchmarks
It may be easier if you:
β’ Already work in Ontario
β’ Have a supportive employer
β’ Are a recent Ontario graduate
β’ Have real, verifiable employment
π― Key advantages for Ontario graduates
β’ Lower wage threshold (low wage vs median)
β’ Reduced work experience (3 months vs 6 months)
β’ Strong provincial ties (education + local experience)
β’ Higher employer confidence hiring locally
π Additional nuances
β’ βRecent graduateβ window expanded to 3 years
β’ Not all programs qualify (some 1-year programs may not)
β’ Language may be exempt in specific cases
β’ Employer participation is now the gatekeeper
π Strategy Shift
OINP is no longer something you βqualify forβ on paper
Itβs something you build through employment relationships
π Strong employer β OINP becomes highly viable
π Final Take
This is a philosophy shift
OINP now prioritizes:
β’ Real jobs
β’ Real employers
β’ Real retention
The pathway is clearer for the right candidates.
Those who adapt early will benefit the most.
