Build your future in Alberta

I often say Canada’s immigration system falls short. Alberta’s Rural Entrepreneur Stream is one of the few exceptions, and it is where the project I want to introduce fits.

There is a live Alberta oil and gas project on the table right now, being taken through screening and due diligence, with local technical and operating people involved from the start.

One thing needs saying up front. A ready project does not hand you permanent residence the moment you invest. The project has to stand on its own, and so does your immigration eligibility. Those are two separate questions.

If you have real business or senior management experience, and you are willing to move to Alberta and actually run something, there are two ways in.

The first is taking a controlling stake in an Alberta oil and gas business, either by setting up a new operating company where you hold at least 51%, or buying 100% of an existing one. You carry the real management load, while the local team handles screening, technical work, and day to day operations on site. What it cannot be is passive money.

The second is building an equipment and technology service business, bringing Chinese oilfield, electric drive and grid technology into Canada and providing the local sales, installation and after sales side. It tends to produce active income sooner, and it puts the Chinese supply chain and Alberta’s energy sector to work together.

Either route still has to clear the stream’s basic bar: business or senior management experience, CLB 4, net worth of $300,000, at least $100,000 invested, majority ownership, a Community Support Letter, and living in Alberta while you run the business.

The work now is matching it to your background, your capacity to invest, and the right immigration path.
