Ontario has published the EOI scoring for the new Workforce Priority Stream, and the numbers quietly tell you who this stream is built for.

Look past the point totals and a pattern shows up. The stream rewards candidates already working in Ontario, earning strong wages, and working outside Toronto and major urban centres. A wage of $40 per hour or more carries meaningful points, and time in the same role as your job offer matters.

If that describes you, this is good news.

But there is a quieter shift international students should not miss.

Under the old system, education points came from your highest credential, field of study, and number of Canadian credentials. Field of study alone could add up to 12 points, with STEM, health, and trades scoring higher.

In the new scoring, your highest credential and number of Canadian credentials remain. Field of study is gone.

That reads like a loss. For some, it is. But it is only half the story.

The redesign also lowers eligibility thresholds for recent Ontario graduates in work experience, language, and income. Qualifying is now easier, even without the field of study bonus.

Two things to keep in mind:

1. Eligibility and scoring are separate gates. Clearing eligibility is easier, but reaching a competitive score is a different question.

2. If your OINP score looks thin, Express Entry is still very much in play. Canadian education continues to carry weight, especially with qualifying work experience and in French-aligned draws.

The EOI system is not live yet. That is the window. Know where you stand now, before draws begin.
